Vatican Museums, in Viale Vaticano in Rome, inside the State of Vatican City. They are one of the largest art collections in the world, since it exposes the enormous collection of art works accumulated over the centuries by the Popes.
The museum was founded by Pope Julius II in the sixteenth century. The Sistine Chapel and the papal apartments frescoed by Michelangelo and Raphael works are part of the museum and visitors can admire in their path.
The Vatican Museums, which occupy most of the vast courtyard of the Belvedere, were visited in 2011 to 5.978,804 people, confirming its position as the most visited "Italian"museum.
